UBC IMBA Shanghai Office is pleased to
invite you to attend our upcoming open seminar “A Smart Way of Affording
Your Dream Home: Think Like a Financial Economist!” by Ron Giammarino, a
finance professor from Sauder School of Business at UBC on 12 March 2014.
In this introductory finance seminar session, Ron will discuss the basis
of discounting and compounding effect in the area of finance. The session
will use “home-buying” as an example to illustrate how a
financial institution evaluates loans and how a financial economist
would. Ron will also talk about how one can “afford” buying the first
home by understanding personal financial planning and housing choice.
Ron’s goal is not to show how one can buy a house but using this example
to make one smarter about the finance environment.
Everyone is welcome; regardless if you

Ron Giammarino is a financial economist and has been
employed at the UBC since 1984. Ron currently holds the rank of
Professor, a position he has held since July 1998. Ron currently is
Director of the Phillips Hager and North Centre for Financial Research.
Ron received an Undergraduate Degree in Economics from St. Francis Xavier
University, a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Queen’s University,
and PhD in Management from Queen’s University.
The primary area in which Ron conducts research is corporate finance with
particular emphasis on investment decisions, bankruptcy, financial
strategies, corporate control, and bank regulation. Ron has been asked to
present his work at several academic conferences and university seminars
as well as to a number of policy making and professional groups including
the Chartered Accountants of B.C, Industry Canada, Bank of Canada.
Ron Giammarino是一名金融经济学家。他从1984年开始在UBC工作，自1998年7月担任教授至今。Ron目前还是Phillips
